the running streak.

happy monday! i hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving spending time with their families and loved ones. we spent most of our time in springfield, missouri at k’s sister and brother-in-law’s place and had a great time visiting with everyone. we ate lots of delicious food, did a little bit of black friday shopping (did anyone else go to old navy at midnight for jeans? insanity), and did lots of relaxing.

if you’re like us, you probably had a few too many glasses of mulled wine or a few too many slices of dessert, but no fear. that’s what the running streak is for. from thanksgiving until new year’s, runner’s world wants you to pledge to run at least one mile each day to stay fit during the holiday season.

even though we’re hopping on board a few days late, we’re excited to do this! since our weather doesn’t always permit a run outside, we’re expanding the pledge to be either a one mile run or one workout video from this* site. one thing that we always struggle with in terms of exercise is developing a routine, so we’re hoping that starting with a small, 10-minute-a-day commitment will inspire us to continue past the holidays.

if you’d like to join us in participating in the runner’s world 2012 running streak, let us know in the comments, and let us know what you are committing to – running/walking 1 mile, doing a workout video or ab routine, etc.

*[we recently discovered fitnessblender.com and absolutely love it. it’s got hundreds of videos that target any part of your body you’d like to work on, and you can choose from more intense cardio workouts to less intense strength and toning workouts. what we love best is that many of the videos are only 10-15 minutes, so you can just do one if you’re pressed for time, or you can do several for a more robust workout. our favorite combo is the quick & simple toning and cardio boot camp (10:37) followed by the cardio, abs & obliques workout (10:27) and ending with the cool down & full body stretch (12:20). let us know if you try it out and what your favorites are! oh, and best of all, it’s FREE!]
